Holiday Insurance - The One Cost That Is Worth It

Accidents may happen and other things may occur to endanger your life or your health. So why be exposed to those risks and do nothing about it? Of course, it does not mean you have to stop traveling altogether. But always take precautions.

If ever you fall sick or got involved in an accident and you need to be hospitalized and have to pay for large medical bills, the insurance will get those medical bills covered.

Not all travels to all countries are covered by holiday travel insurance though. So you have to do some inquiries first about the coverage of the insurance you are buying. Also when choosing the right one for you, make sure to do a lot of research and inquiries so that you would make the right choice.

Why Buy Holiday Insurance Then?

Vacation travel insurance may seem not important to many of you, but you might want to revise that opinion. But in cases when accidents do happen, it is best to have something there to cover for you financially.

Yes, you have to pay upfront for vacation medical insurance and you may think that the monthly payment obligation is unnecessary. But think about it for a while. If you got into an accident or whatever situation that needs you to be hospitalized and the medical bills are so high, you may not have that money with you right there and then.

The payments or the holiday medical insurance however are not that big and it could truly benefit you when the time comes.

Cheap Holiday Insurance Deals Are Easy To Find

To find the cheap vacation insurance for you, be inquisitive and make sure you understand the information you are gathering. Paying an affordable price (perhaps on a monthly plan even), for your insurance so that an expensive medical bill can be covered during your travels is definitely to your advantage, right?

If you have a routine that enables you to travel to different places every year, then it would be best for you to buy an annual holiday insurance. All you have to do is find the right provider.

Luckily, the internet is one of the best places where you could start your search for your annual vacation insurance. Get some quotes and decide properly what you need and then jet off on your vacation with a warm, confident feeling that will help you enjoy your vacation to the full.

Travel Insurance - Sports Fans

You know what it’s like when you’ve been an avid follower of one sport or another – be it soccer, snooker or shinty (to name just a few examples)

With a wide variety of different tournaments happening all over the world, many sports fans go to great lengths to support their team – forking out what can equate to thousands of pounds of their hard-earned money on tickets, flights and hotels in order to follow them around the world.

But whilst thousands of fans may travel abroad to watch their teams in competition, many tend to travel without arranging some form of travel insurance before embarking on such trips.

However far the journey, sports fans are being reminded to take precautions and ensure they are covered for their supportive journeys. And with a wide range of cheap travel insurance policies available, many fans could find the cost of such insurance to be lower than first thought.

It is advisable to purchase some form of travel insurance before making your trip, and there are many types of policy that can cater for a range of budgets. Anything can happen when you go abroad, and it’s always best to have some kind of cover in place should you run into difficulties during your trip.

For those travelling to European countries it is also advisable to purchase a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) – forms are available from post offices and the card itself is handy to have in case anything should you run into difficulties during your trip.

However, the card may not cover you for all medical and repatriation costs, and it can be a lengthy and costly process should you need to be flown back from your holiday for treatment in your country of origin.

For trips abroad to watch your team play it is usually advisable (and affordable) to take out a policy for a single trip – even if you’re just popping over for the day.

For those travelling over for tournaments and major events it is advisable to take out an annual travel insurance policy, rather than single trip policies – this strategy can provide peace of mind and also save money due to the length of the policy.

By spending a little on taking out travel insurance before heading out to watch their teams, passionate fans are now able to follow their teams whilst staying protected against any unpredicted events – but unfortunately penalty shootouts won’t be included in the policy!

You Do Have Travel Insurance Though, Don’t You

Once upon a time, a very wise person was heard to say ‘If you can’t afford travel insurance, you can’t afford to travel.’ Its cliché, but then, clichés are often true. If you are going overseas, get travel cover – even the cheapest travel insurance deals are really quite reasonable when compared to the price of airline tickets – let alone the price you might have to pay if you break your leg or get all your bags stolen.

Medical Cover – Just Get It
Expensive but Crucial

No matter what cover you decide to purchase, even if it’s the budget version, it should have some sort of medical cover. However, you may want to beef this up, depending on where you’re travelling. Most basic options will not cover sports such as skiing, as the risk of injury and expensive treatment is just too high. The first important thing you need to worry about is what the treatment will cost you. A case often given is the traveller taking a trip through the United States, land of opportunity and appalling health systems. Many Americans live on a day to day basis with no health insurance – a fallback system is just not in place. This means that if a foreign national gets injured, they’re in the same position, and liable for some astronomical costs. You may think you won’t get ill – but broken bones do happen – one of these could cost you thousands and thousands of dollars. There are horror stories of people only stopping in the US for transit purposes for a few days, and having accidents which take years to pay off. Medical evacuations from the states can cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. Look for policies that deal with this.

A Little Squeamish?

At the other end of the scale, if you are travelling to a developing county, you probably won’t want to subject your delicate first-world body to the particular country’s public medical facilities. Even when planning a short trip to Bali, you might want to make sure your policy covers private health care. With lower standards of medical care (not least due to the fact the rules of global economics mean the highest qualified doctors often leave to pursue careers in wealthier countries), you are at higher risk of infection or other mishaps. On top of this, you probably don’t want to be subjected to the same waiting lists that the locals have to put up with. In countries with high rates of communicable diseases, such as AIDS in Southern Africa, paying the extra for private health care is a wise decision.

Don’t Even Think About It!

Well, you can certainly go wherever you like, but don’t expect to be covered by travel insurance companies if the country or region you are thinking of heading to has a specific travel warning from the Foreign Office. Hotspots such as Iraq or Sudan marked ‘Do Not Travel’ will most probably be snubbed by your insurer. You can generally check for a full list online with various sites offering up to date warnings. There may also be warnings ‘advising against travel’ (the next level down) to a whole host more destinations, including Indonesia (and therefore Bali), so it’s best to check with individual companies if in doubt. Unfortunately for you, the issue may have been politicised, and might even seem bizarre - Australia was recently listed as a risk destination for some time by countries including the UK following the Cronulla riots - but the company probably won’t want to hear your opinion on whether it’s safe. Finally, even if you travel insurance to a country with no prior history of violence, your company may still get out of paying you – many policies will not cover any act of war or terrorism whatsoever

Go Exploring With Travel Insurance

When we plan holidays or trips the purpose is that we want to get out and see the world, expand our horizons, experience new cultures. Many people are not just settling for the typical Spanish beach holiday and are opting for something a bit more adventurous, some people are even making sure that when they go on holiday that they can provide help to countries otherwise forgotten about.

When we go on these holidays or trips we unwittingly put ourselves in harm’s path, be it walking through a jungle infested with snakes and scorpions or even taking skiing lesson up a mountain slope.

Whilst the more adventurous and hardy of us will dismiss this issue and jump in feet first the more cautious traveller would probably shy away from dangerous activities but is still susceptible to the same risks as the daredevils.

This is the reason why travel insurance is more and more important these days, the main reason is that repatriating people who’ve been injured in a foreign country can rack up serious bills. When you think that ambulances and even roads can be rare in some remote locations and quite often an air ambulance in the form of a medical helicopter will have to carry you to the nearest hospital and the cost of such service can rise above £1000 and in some cases where you are needed to be lifted over long distances it is not unheard of for the bill to shoot up to the range of £9000.

When you hear figures like that it should make you think that travel insurance is a necessity rather than a precaution, with young people spending time on gap years towards worthwhile causes such as hospitals in Africa and other countries it becomes oblivious that travel insurance is something you’ll need as well as your good intentions.

If you’re one of the more adventurous of travellers and like to go here there and everywhere it may be worth looking into annual travel insurance as it would certainly save time when it comes to packing and planning your latest Indiana Jones-esque adventure! It would also be advisable to inform your travel insurer of exactly what you’re holiday will entail, in some cases you will have to apply for further cover on activities like skydiving and other adventurous exploits.
